Every book ends in a cliffhanger that makes you anxious to start the next book. My 11 yr. old son and I are having a challenge to finish the series, with each of us a month apart. My son loves these books and given the opportunity I will probably buy more in the series
I love this series. Thinking of buying the whole series. I have never read a book that was so involved. I would recommend this book to anyone. It is one of those books where you read it and just keep reading until you realize 45 minutes have gone by.
My higher students love this book series. You can find test to go with them on scholastic website. Will purchase again and again.
It's tough to find books that kids will stick with long enough to actually improve their reading skills. The best way I've found to do this is with a series. My grandsons started this one with the May volume, so they were dying to read the first novel in the series. I read everything before giving it to them, and I found it engaging, humorous, thrilling and suspenseful. All the ingredients needed to keep a "tween" reading all the way to the end of the series. The best part is, they don't even know they're practicing!
Storyline - In book 2, Cal tries to piece together the mystery his father talked about before his illness and death, he must survive the coming attacks from those who wants the knowledge they believe he has. What ever they are and where ever they come. As the months conitnue, he has to stay hiden and secretive to stay alive. Will he make it and find the secret his father found?
Personal Opinion - I found this book entertaining, fast moving, and engaging. It did have some stuff that I didn't like but the character can still grow and come to find new things. Even though there was some bad language and behavior done by the main character,I would recommend still recommend this book but would make a point of discussing the things Cal did that were wrong and why. Maybe even talk about what might have been a good alternative.
My 10 year old son is LOVING this series! He's finally using the I got him for Christmas!!! Thank you Gabrielle Lord for writing something this boy loves!

I'm all for ANY book series that can interest a 10 year old boy! He reads above grade level so this series is perfect and captures his attention. He's on book 3 now.
My son loves this series of books, you think how can this story continue for 12 months/books but it comes with new twist and turns throughout every book and you have to get the next book right away because each one leaves you hanging, so buy all 12 at once because you will want to keep going once you start, the story is believable, the characters are well developed and the story line is easy to remember, would definitely recommend to young readers!
